There were a few hours there where it looked like the May government might weather the initial storm of criticism over the final Brexit deal. Emerging from her unexpectedly long cabinet meeting yesterday, May declared that she had the cabinet’s support despite a few reservations.
Just one day later the strength of those reservations is readily apparent: Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab, Work and Pensions Secretary Esther McVey, and junior Brexit minister Suella Braverman have all quit their cabinet posts.
